French Disco

I dug this up from a dolla bin in france. I extended the intro.

"Five Letters is a French Pop group linking French Pop with Disco. They worked with Disco Super-Producer and label owner Cerrone. They blend strong dance grooves with sometimes silly melodies but always clever catchy vocals. The main man is Claude Vallois, singer, keyboardplayer and arranger. The song "you sky me" is the last seen 12" release of the group. After that pages of their history are blank... their music is not forgotten however. Quality Disco with ze French touch..." Released 1978, Crocos Records

The first half of the video is produced by me, and the second is a banger produced by Tranzformer representing El Centro California. Remarkable Mayor are putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated debut, which is set to take the world of underground Hip Hop by storm.

Unadulterated Bullard

I didn't know that i would ever like Calypso but this shit is nice and soulful. The cover caught my attention so I snatched it up for a buck at Stamford Goodwill. Never heard of the dude before but apparently he is from Savannah Sound and (fun fact) got his first pair of shoes at age 14. I ran the track through my SP-303 compressor for an extra boost to the sound, me likes!

"cause I am gonna shoot you doowwwn . . ."

My favorite Ruby Andrews song, and possibly one of my favorite songs of all time. I have included for downloads "Casanova (Your Playing Days Are Over)", plus "Casanova 70" by Ruby, and another great Disco version of "Casanova" by the group Coffee just for good measure.

Sasssssss

This is my JAM right now. One of stand-out tracks from this Kung Fu Funk compilation i bought many years ago. I couldn't find any info on Sass, but they definitely funked shit up hard. (Please somebody message me with some info on them if you can find any). The cover of this album always made want to practice tattooing on poultry, so i dont mess up on somebody's skin starting out. Ripped from wax as usual.

Child Is The Father Of Man

Blood, Sweat & Tears made timeless music, and thankfully they are very easy to find in dollar bins. I have sampled the shit out of them countless times, but sometimes it is better to just listen to their tracks in full. Why don't bands have full string and horn arrangements anymore? Its a damn shame. I especially love the cover with the mini-me's on it.

The Magical Mystery Of . . .

Another disco banger I found at GW today, complete with infectious bassline and drumbreak. The lyrics are cheese, but I cant be mad at that. Produced by Skip Konte.

PhD vs. Penguin

A re-edit I put together of an obscure calypso track by the group Penguin. I found this record back in the day, in a huge pile of crappy vinyl that my friend had somehow copped in Toronto. This came out in 1982, but sounds like some serious superfly 70s shit. It was released on Solar Sounds and Produced by Leston Paul. I cut out the god-awful vocals and bridges, and extended the juicy parts...

*cough *cough

A nice hip-hop reggae mashup produced by Bigga Mention and Celph Titled. I remember seeing these all over the place about 10 years ago. The beats/riddims featured are stalag riddim, real rock riddim, and into the Mos Def "Definition" beat. There is also a real dope "accapella" in there for all you DJs... Thank you Stamford Goodwill
